Behavior

The Swine Prince occupies the first three ranks, and Wilbur, the fourth.

On Veteran and Champion difficulty, at the beginning of each round Wilbur will use Bit 'o Squeal as a free action, Stun Stunning one or more heroes. The Apprentice version of Wilbur technically has this skill, but he will not use it.

During each round, Wilbur will use End This One or End These Two to Mark one or two heroes, respectively. The Swine Prince can then use Obliterate Body or Obliterate Masses to deal massive damage to the marked targets. If no hero is marked, the Swine Prince will instead use Wild Flailing, which deals substantially less damage.

Hitting Wilbur with any damaging attack will result in the Swine Prince immediately attacking all heroes with Enraged Destruction, which deals high damage and has a chance to Stun Stun. For this reason it is highly discouraged to attack Wilbur while the Swine Prince is alive.

In theory, Wilbur can be killed to stop his Marks. However, once Wilbur is dead, the Swine Prince will use Enraged Destruction every round, significantly increasing his damage output.

If the Swine Prince is killed, Wilbur will stop using his Marking abilities and will instead Squeal every round. This attack hits the entire party, dealing a very small amount of damage, with a chance to Stun Stun.

The quest is considered complete after killing the Swine Prince, so technically the party can retreat without killing Wilbur and still earn the trophy and quest rewards.

Strategy

It is highly recommended to kill the Swine Prince first and avoid hitting at all Wilbur beforehand in order to avoid the high damage and Stun Stun from Enraged Destruction. For this reason, Riposte Riposte is also discouraged since it can accidentally kill Wilbur.

The main challenge in the fight is dealing with the Swine Prince's very high damage output. The standard party composition for the Swine Prince usually includes three heroes:

  • An Arbalest or Musketeer can clear Mark (and Stun Stun), greatly reducing the Swine Prince's damage.
  • A Leper and Occultist can Debuff Debuff the Swine Prince's damage with Intimidate and Weakening Curse, respectively, to the point where the boss deals zero damage. This is a similar strategy as for the Prophet.

The last hero should have some flexibility. Ideally this hero should be able to deal heavy damage, and/or Guard Guard or support the team. A Houndmaster is a strong pick who can do all of these.

It is possible to hit Wilbur and avoid Enraged Destruction as long as the skill deals no damage. For example, both the Bounty Hunter and Plague Doctor have skills that can safely Stun Stun rank 4 without causing damage.

The Swine Prince has very high health, the highest of all bosses aside from the Countess. Thankfully, he has no PROT and low resistances to Bleed Bleed and Blight Blight, so he should be easy to kill once his damage output has been reduced.

Preferred Heroes

  • Abomination - His Beast form can deal massive damage with Rage.
  • Arbalest/Musketeer - Can remove Mark and Stun Stun on all party members except herself. The main weakness is that she cannot clear on herself, so it is advised to bring a hero who can support her in some way.
  • Bounty Hunter - With Arbalest mostly filling the role of countering Wilbur, Bounty Hunter is the best option for Mark payoff. Mark is very effective, allowing Bounty Hunter to deal massive damage. Especially with his Campskill against size 2 enemies, he can deal amazing damage. Flashbang allows him to Stun Wilbur without provoking attacks from Swine King.
  • Grave Robber - Lunge deals great damage, especially after using Shadow Fade. If the party doesn't get messed up by Graverobber moving around, she can deal massive damage.
  • Hellion - Bleed Out can deal massive damage extremely quickly, especially if Hellion lands a critical hit. The -dmg debuff can hamper her damage output in the long run, but a crit can instantly offset it. She also gets amazing campskills for this fight, gaining +25% dmg for the entire fight since she won't get pushed out of Rank 1 by Swine or Wilbur. She can also gain +10% crit to make Bleed Out a massive damage move with a high potential to chain critical hits for even bigger damage.
  • Houndmaster - Very flexible damage dealer. Can greatly boost his own damage with Mark and Dog Treats, and has a damage bonus versus Beast. Can also Guard Guard an ally if necessary.
  • Leper - The Intimidate/Weakening Curse build is very strong and can reduce the Swine Prince's damage to 0. It is recommended to replace an ACC trinket with Immunity Mask, since there are major consequences if the Leper gets Stun Stunned, and he can buff his own ACC with Reflection before the boss battle.
  • Occultist - The Intimidate/Weakening Curse build is very strong and can reduce the Swine Prince's damage to 0.

Discouraged Heroes

  • Antiquarian - Can't deal a whole lot of damage, but can draw Swine's attacks with Protect me. Her Dodge buffs and ACC cuts don't do a whole lot since Swine has very high ACC.

*When a Hero uses an ability on Wilbur, Swine Prince will automatically perform Enraged Destruction after that action, ignoring any status effects already on it (stun etc.). If Wilbur dies, said ability will be used every turn by the Swine Prince/King/God afterwards.

Trophy

After completing the Swine Prince's champion quest, Wilbur will drop his flag as a Trophy.
