Behavior

The Prophet spawns on rank 4, with wooden pews occupying ranks 1, 2 and 3.

The Prophet always begins the round with Prognostication, a free action which marks one or two ranks (not heroes), and ends the round with Rubble of Ruin, another free action that hits the marked ranks. Rubble of Ruin deals extremely high damage, potentially taking heroes from full health to Death's Door Death's Door in a single attack. Aside from these, he has one normal action per turn, during which he will use either Eye on You or Fulminate.

If a hero is heavily stressed (>50 Stress), the chance of him using Eye on You will be doubled or tripled for Veteran or Champion level dungeons, respectively.

Breaking the pews will reward valuable Consecrated Pews at the end of the battle, up to 7500 gold if all three Pews are broken. After defeating the Prophet, all remaining pews will disappear along with the potential reward.

Strategy

The primary risk of the Prophet is Rubble of Ruin, which can very quickly bring heroes to Death's Door Death's Door. Without proper damage mitigation, Rubble of Ruin followed by a Blight Blight or Stun Stun can easily lead to one or more heroes dying.

A secondary risk is the Stun Stun from Eye on You, which can disable multiple heroes per turn. Teams should be built with some redundancy, and Stun Stun resistance should be increased if it is practical to do so.

For any strategy, it is recommended to bring Holy Water and Antivenoms to mitigate the Blight Blight from Fulminate.

Preferred Heroes

  • Abomination - Can deal extreme damage when transformed. Can also solo the Prophet with the right setup.[2]
  • Arbalest - Deals great back line damage. Suppressing Fire decreases the risk of getting hit by rubble. Rallying Flare can remove Stun Stun.
  • Crusader - Holy Lance can deal great back rank damage. Bulwark of Faith can mitigate damage.
  • Hellion - Iron Swan hits the back rank very hard.
  • Houndmaster - Can Guard Guard heroes as part of a DODGE-based strategy. Also synergises well with Mark users.
  • Leper - Intimidate greatly reduces the Prophet's damage. Withstand and Solemnity give him good survivability. With the Intimidate build, the Leper should use Immunity Mask instead of an ACC trinket; there are potentially major consequences if the Leper gets stunned, but he can buff his ACC with Reflection before the boss fight.
  • Man-at-Arms - Can Guard Guard heroes and boost his own PROT. Has excellent camping skills.
  • Occultist - Weakening Curse greatly reduces the Prophet's damage. Vial of Sand may be preferable to Demon's Cauldron to increase his Stun Stun resistance.
  • ShieldbreakerShieldbreaker - Has great reach. Can negate rubble damage by using Serpent Sway. Aegis Scales can also negate damage on marked targets.

Reasonable Choices

  • Antiquarian - High DODGE. Note that Flashpowder in this case may be even more effective than Invigorating Vapours (-15 ACC versus +10 DODGE), but requires a trinket to be reliable.
  • Bounty Hunter - While Caltrops and Mark can greatly increase the damage Prophet takes, he requires a lot of support to survive the Prophet to begin with. That said, he has an excellent DODGE trinket in the Mask of the Timeless.
  • Grave Robber - High DODGE and reach.
  • Jester - High DODGE and Finale.
  • Highwayman - While he has great reach, he doesn't have any sustain and Pistol Shot deals relatively lower damage compared to other heroes.
  • Plague Doctor - Relatively fragile, but good back rank damage. Ashen Distillation is an excellent DODGE trinket.
  • Vestal - Can heal the entire party. One niche strategy uses four Vestals to stack Pray, giving each Vestal 45% PROT. With some PROT trinkets and team-wide healing, they can destroy the pews and outlast the Prophet.[3]

Discouraged Heroes

  • Crimson CourtFlagellant - While the Prophet is weak to Bleed Bleed, the Flagellant is discouraged for the Ruins. Not to mention, many of the Flagellant's best sustain abilities are of limited use and impose heavy debuffs.
