Flesh
The Flesh is the second boss of the Warrens, appearing after the Swine Prince. Like other bosses, it has three variations (Inchoate, Unstable, and Formless). It features 4 different parts that change each round, each of which has its own specific set of abilities and stats. Each part only has one action per round no matter what form it takes. Lastly, they all share the same Health Bar; thus, all four parts are alive and active until you deplete its health to 0.

Behavior
The Flesh has 4 different parts in every rank with a shared health bar. Each part has a unique attack and stats. At the start of every turn, it will morph, randomly transforming parts. It is possible to have multiple copies of the same part. All parts except the Heart have high PROT and will inflict different status effects. The Heart heals whichever part is located in rank 1.
Strategy
3 of the 4 body parts have high PROT so damage over time is usually preferred to direct damage. Cleaves (especially DoT cleaves) are also highly effective because all the body parts share a single health bar. If using direct damage, targeting the Heart is most effective, but this is slightly RNG-dependent since the Heart may not spawn in range of the hero's strongest attacks. An alternative is to use a strong PROT debuff, like the Houndmaster's Target Whistle.
The Flesh deals extremely high damage along with
Stun,
Bleed, and
Blight. The on-hit damage of both the Maw and the Butt is high enough for a crit to potentially bring a hero to Death's Door, after which Bleed or Blight can immediately kill them. Being able to resist or remove

can greatly reduce risk in this fight.
Team Selection
Preferred Heroes
- Abomination - Has good damage output with Beast's Bile and has good base Blight resist. Can also Transform in a pinch to heal himself and try to hit a Heart in the first 3 Ranks with Rage.
- Arbalest - Can deal huge amounts of damage to any target with Mark. Best paired with a Houndmaster's Mark, but Bounty Hunter is also viable. She also has a lot of health and can heal heroes in an emergency. She is also the only hero who can remove
Stun from another hero. - Flagellant - Amazing
Bleed with both Rain of Sorrows and Exsanguinate. Reclaim can prevent Death's Door checks from Bleed and Blight, which is the main way the Flesh kills heroes. The Flagellant's high Bleed resist also helps keep him alive against the Head, which is the main damage-dealing part that will be attacking him. - Houndmaster - Can apply Bleed to all 4 parts with Hound's Harry and
Guard someone in a pinch. Target Whistle is a Mark as well as the best PROT debuff in the game, so he enables other users to deal huge damage and effectively ignore PROT. - Leper - Extremely survivable. PROT can negate some of his damage output, but he can spend a turn using Revenge to buff his damage instead. Duo Leper is actually one of the strongest compositions for the Flesh, since it effectively negates the Flesh's damage to the back ranks. The two Lepers can simply outlast the Flesh and Chop it to death.
- Plague Doctor - Can apply large amounts of
Blight and remove Bleed and Blight from the party. Blinding Gas also helps at keeping the backline safe from Butt crits, and even if she does get hit, her high Blight resistance makes a Death's Door check less likely. - Shieldbreaker - Pierce ignores PROT completely. At higher levels, Impale can
Blight all parts at once. She is a bit more frail than the Houndmaster, but Serpent's Sway can help keep her safe. Bear in mind that she cannot use Impale on every turn, as it forces her to move back.
Reasonable Choices
- Antiquarian - She is very strong, optimal even, in a purely DODGE-focused strategy. Otherwise her damage and support abilities are quite weak.
- Bounty Hunter - His Mark can take off large chunks of the PROT the parts have, enabling big on-hit damage output against all parts except the Bone. Since the Flesh is counted as a size 4 enemy, Planned Takedown will also increase the Bounty Hunter's damage output.
- Crusader - A strong generalist hero with good reach and decent damage. Can heal in an emergency.
- Grave Robber - Can either use Lunge on a Heart for big on-hit damage or bypass the other parts' PROT with Pick to the Face or Poison Darts. However, her low HP can be a liability.
- Hellion - Can deal good amounts of single-target Bleed with either If It Bleeds or Bleed Out. Can also deal good on-hit damage against the Heart at any position.
- Highwayman - Can deal good damage to any position or facilitate applying Bleed with Open Vein.
- Jester - Can deal good damage with Harvest, but has low HP and resistances.
- Man-at-Arms - Doesn't deal much damage, but can focus on buffs, debuffs and
Guard to support the party. Bolster and Retribution are very good in a DODGE party.
